Family: Ulmaceae
Local Names: ആവൽ, ആവിൽ, ഞെട്ടാവൽ (Malayalam)
Habit: Medium sized deciduous tree
Habitat: Moist deciduous and dry deciduous forests.
Ecological Importance:
. It is the larval host plant of the butterfly Plain Cupid (Chilades pandava).
Economic Importance:
.Timber is heavy and hard but non-durable and is used to make match sticks, packing cases, agriculture implements etc..
Bark and leaves are used as medicine to treat Leprosy, Piles, Diabetics etc.
