Habit: Lofty evergreen tree
Habitat: Evergreen forests and sacred groves
Ecological Importance:
Hopea is a larval host plant for butterflies including Large Oak Blue, Centuare Oak Blue, Long Banded Silverline etc.
Economic Importance:
Timber is very hard and durable timber and used for making railway sleepers, wooden bridges and Elephant Craal where high strength and durability is required.
